Bill and Barbara have both fallen through the cracks of the everyday. Bill has gone on leave from a research position at a university while Barbara has left her medical practice. But where do you go when your partner has left and sheer exhaustion has taken over? How do you find your way back? To escape from a chaotic world, Bill and Barbara, independently of one another, travel to an island where they both spent holidays as children. Jakob Vedelsby’s seven novels speak to an international audience. An eighth novel will be published in Denmark in 2025 where his first poetry will also see publication. Vedelsby has received extensive recognition as well as awards from the Danish Arts Foundation, among others. He holds an M.A. in Film and Media Studies and between 2014 and 2017 served as chair of the Danish Society of Authors. He resides in Copenhagen.
Nina Sokol is a poet in the midst of translating novels, short stories. plays and poems by Danish writers. She was a grant poet-in-residence at The Vermont Studio Center in 2011 and has received several grants from the Danish Art’s Council to translate plays, including a play written by the fairy tale writer H.C. Andersen which was published by the journal InTranslation. Her own poems have appeared in American journals, including Miller’s Pond and the Hiram Poetry Review and a collection is now available from Spuyten Duyvil, The Silence Sound Makes.
